Tambopata National Reserve

tambopata reserveThe Tambopata National Reserve, easily accessed through Puerto Maldonado, is in the southwestern part of the Peruvian Amazon. Within its more than one million square hectares, you'll find one of the most biodiverse area of the planet including more than 575 species of birds, 103 types of mammals, 1200 species of butterflies and more than 94 of fish.

Amongs the animals you may spy here include the South American bush dog, the black caiman, the Harpy Eagle and the giant river. And, of course, you will see a variety of colorful parrots and an abundance of monkeys. The flora is also quite diverse and includes more than 1400 types of plants. If you're lucky, you'll get to observe animals that are extinct elsewhere.
