Tour Sucre

Sucre

"Thank you for your personal response to our inquires..for your assurances..for your patience..and for your professionalism"

I wanted to touch base and let all of the people at Kuoda who were involved in our wonderful trip to Peru know that it was an experience that we will be retelling for years. Thank you for your personal response to our inquires..for your assurances..for your patience..and for your professionalism. Ken and I were unsure of which of the hundreds of agencies to go with...we did our research..and I must say that it was your immediate response and your manner that initially encouraged us to use Kuoda. The itinerary was tailored to our personalities perfectly. We love the beauty of your country..Machu Picchu was amazing and one of the highlights of Ken's life will be his trip to the top of Huayna Picchu. But I have to say that the trip to the village school and our visit with the women of the Chinchero community, who were so gracious and showed us their weaving traditions (and even invited us into one of their homes to see the guinea pigs) touched me deeply and was among my most memorable...

Thank you and best wishes.

SucreLocated in the southern part of Bolivia at 2,800m in altitude, Sucre is the judicial capital of Bolivia. It's a beautiful place to visit due to the historic architecture preserved downtown, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.

In addition to being a lovely place to spend a few days soaking up the atmosphere, Sucre is also a gateway to a number of small villages dating from the colonial period, the most well-known of which is Tarabuco. Tarabuco is home to the colorful Pujllay festival held every March.

In these villages you are likely to find living evidence of the country's history including descendants of the Spanish conquest, part of an indigenous group that continue to dress in their own unique native clothing. This serves not only to preserve cultural identity but also mark the specific area they're from.

Because Sucre has also been known as La Plata, Chuquisaca and Charcas, it holds the nickname City of Four Names ("La Ciudad de Cuatro Nombres"). It is also sometimes referred to as the White City ("La Ciudad Blanca") because most of the colonial buildings in the center are whitewashed. Call it what you will, you'll be glad you spent some time here on your Bolivia tour.
