The Jesuit Missions Route
Traveling along the route and visiting the many Jesuit missions on it is a different kind of step back into time. The 17th century Jesuits intended to build the "City of God" and constructed a number of beautiful churches and missions along this path where one can still see the locals attending mass. They are all the more fascinating as, like many destinations in Bolivia, these missions were isolated for centuries. UNESCO declared the mission to be part of the "Cultural Patrimony of Humanity" in 1991.
