This sample itinerary offers you the treasure’s of Bolivian culture: the healers of La Paz, the past and present cultures of the incredible floating islands of Lake Titicaca, and ancient ruins in what is considered the Cradle of American Civilization.

 

The Travel

Day 1: Arrival in La Paz

Welcome to Bolivia

Upon arrival in La Paz, you will be met by your Kuoda host, who will escort you to the Inca Utama Hotel on Lake Titicaca (approximately an hour and a half from the city)
After resting, you will have the remainder of the day to visit the Andean Roots Cultural Complex, where you can examine displays about the cultural heritage of the Andes and enjoy the hotel’s amenities.

In the evening you will visit the native healers – the “Kallaways” – of Bolivia, who believe you must heal the soul in order to heal the body. You will meet “Tata Benjo,” who will cast his sacred coca leaves and read your future.
End the day with a candlelit dinner at the excellent Sumaj Untavi Restaurant.


Day 2: Lake Titicaca

Moon Island / Sun Island / Copacabana
After breakfast, board a hydrofoil and begin your Lake Titicaca adventure. Your first stop is Moon Island where you will visit the “Iñak Uyu,” the Sun Virgins' Temple, where the most beautiful virgins of the Incas maintained a sacred fire dedicated to their gods. Continue to Copacabana for a visit to the cathedral and the “Dark Virgin of the Lake” (which has made Copacabana a major pilgrimage site).

Your next stop will be Sun Island, legendary birthplace of the Inka. Here you will visit Pilcocaina Sun Temple before beginning a short trek with llamas to the Posada del Inca Lodge. This charming lodge is located on top of the island, with a breathtaking view of Lake Titicaca and the Royal Range of the Andes.

Day 3: Lake Titicaca

Sun Island / Sustainable Tourism / Aymara Cosmology
You will spend the morning visiting the ancient Inca stairways and the Sacred Fountain (said to bequeath eternal youth and happiness) on Sun Island before enjoying a panoramic view and excellent lunch at Uma Kollo Restaurant.

You will then take a hydrofoil to Quewaya Island to visit the Uru-Iruitos Floating Island greenhouses, where the local community produces vegetables, flowers and strawberries. Listen to the ancient language still spoken by the people of this community.

In the evening, you will be taken to the Alajpacha Native Observatory for an awe-inspiring view of the Bolivian night sky and a lesson in Aymara cosmology.


Day 4: The Altiplano to La Paz

Cultures in the Altiplano / Cradle of American Civilization
After breakfast, you will depart for a visit to Tiahuanaco. Once the capital of a powerful civilization that flourished around 700 BC, it is considered by many to be the cradle of American civilization. You will visit the great pyramid, the Sun Gate, and the mysterious monoliths.

You will then continue to La Paz for an afternoon city tour. See the Indian Market, as well as the famous Witches´Market, where locals sell items used in ceremonies and rituals, such as llama fetuses, colored candles, various herbs, and a profusion of incenses used for different purposes.

 

Day 5: La Paz to Home

Return Home
At the appropriate time, your Kuoda La Paz host will transfer you back to the airport for your international flight home.
